Got a new camera!

Sun Mar 15, 2009, 11:52 AM
I wanted to get a camera that I could take "everywhere". Sometimes I dont feel like pulling out my DSLR. Even though mine is a considered small for a DSLR (Nikon D50). So when shopping around I was disappointed with the point and shoot quality I was finding. I know they can't be fairly compared to each other but I still wanted quality. And I think I found it!

I was in a car accident almost two years ago and finally got my settlement check....I got the Canon G10! I am actually impressed with this camera. It can go fully manual and in my opinion worth every penny.

I plan to put my camera to good use! I'm going to start the 365 project in May. I want to document from May to May because there will be a lot of milestones in my life. And I would like to be able to look back at that year in pictures! Wish me luck! :)

hilo! thanks for checking my gallery :)
I've been using the D50 for quite sometime now atleast 4 yrs! for a while I only used the kit lens 18-55mm, then I started to use the nikkor prime 50mm 1.8 then ~Ke- gave me his wide angle 12-24mm and sigma lenses which are 80-200mm. I'm not sure what you want to shoot, but if you're into portrait etc...i think the nikkor 30mm 1.4 that's just out now would be a nice one...it's only good for closeup but also wide enough for street photography.

well hope all is good

Thanks for replying! I have the kit lens as well and a 35-70mm f/2.8 lens. I was thinking about getting the 50mm 1.8 for some concert photography but not sure if I should since I already have that range.

the prime is way better than the zoom. the quality of the fixed lens is sharper and beside at 1.8 it's faster. with zoom the details captured are poorer than the prime. and the 50mm 1.8 can give you some nice results with bokeh and dof. ;)
